The perfect floral midi dress

Success on Stilettos, a Cifncinnati fashion blog; floral midi dress and Steve Madden sandals

I was gifted this dress and these sandals up for my birthday and I have seriously worn both non-stop since getting them. Both are the perfect throw on and go Summertime pieces, so you better believe I’m getting as much wear out of them as possible before fall.

My personal favorite thing about this dress is that I don’t have to wear a bra. That never happens for me. Blouses that most people wouldn’t need a bra for, I always have to wear one. But not this dress! PS – It’s on sale for under $40 currently.

We’re heading to Lake Norris this weekend with some of our friends, and this floral dress is definitely coming with me.

Stay All Day Series: Over and Under

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati style blog; how to make your makeup stay all day

Last week, I shared the first post in a series about making your makeup stay all day. As mentioned, I had oily/combination skin growing up, and my makeup would be gone in just a few hours – SO frustrating, plus it felt like a colossal waste of money.

Since its taken me years to get my combo to something that really works for me, I wanted to share my favorite products.

Under:

  • Urban Decay Vitamin Infused B6 Complexion Prep Spray – I use this from time to time after washing my face (it works as a toner, too). I like that it mattifyes my skin.
  • Kopari Coconut Rose Toner – I actually got this after I shot these products, so no photo here, but I’ve become a big fan of this. It tones skin without leaving it feeling too dry. Plus the smell is amazing!
  • Tarte BB tinted primer (with SPF 30) – I love this stuff. There is absolutely NOTHING oily about it. It even feels matte when it comes out of the tube. I use this after washing, toning and moisturizing. (Pro tip: Generally, I will wash, tone and moisturize then go make breakfast so everything has a chance to soak into my skin before applying makeup. This helps my skin not feel so oily.) I’ll also use this on days I don’t feel like doing my makeup for the added SPF and for how even it makes my skintone.
  • Cover FX Mattifying Primer with anti-acne treatment – Shoutout to my girl Shivalicious for turning me on to this stuff a few years ago. It quickly became my mattifying go-to. It has definitely helped my skin!
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Priming Potion – This stuff is straight up MAGIC for me. I use this every day I wear eyeshadow. My lids stay perfectly in-place ALL DAY. Not even a little slippage. I can even leave my eye makeup on during a workout (for the record, this is not my normal practice, but hey, sometimes you have places to be after a workout) and it stays in place, no matter how sweaty I am.

What to do in Cincinnati; Mad Tree Brewery

Happy Friday! I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited it’s finally the weekend. Tomorrow, I’m heading to the Union Center Food Truck Festival, and Saturday I’m heading to fellow blogger babe, Molly’s wedding.

I wanted to share some link love and what I’m loving lately:

Shopping: I don’t know why, but I’m all about these rose gold birkenstocks. Probably super basic of me, but I think they’ll be perfect with skinny jeans and a blouse. I recently saw a girl wearing a pair and she looked super chic, and knew I had to had to have them.

Wearing:The theme this week seems to be old favorites. You may remember this SheIn dress from last Summer, but I still love it. (Catch that post here.) I’ve also had my favorite cutoff shorts (last seen here) on repeat too.

Reading: Did you catch this post on books you should add to your reading list? I’m also going to be scooping up the latest from Ruth Ware, The Lying Game soon.

Watching: I started Ozark last night and am literally watching it as I write this. Jason Bateman is per usual, amazing and the premise is so. good. Start watching now! (Side note: the trailer for the new season of The Crown is out, and I cannot WAIT til’ December).

Cincy-ing: One of my favorite things about this city is all the local breweries and restaurants. I love being able to get a delicious meal and unique craft brew while also supporting local business. Some friends and I hit up Mad Tree (pictured above) over last weekend, and it was so fun just hanging around talking.

Eating: I can’t recommend Nation Bar & Kitchen in downtown Cincy enough. In my opinion, they have the best burgers in the city (plus a really cool backstory).

Loving: Kopari Coconut Rose toner. I’ve been spraying this on my fave after washing and it’s SO good you guys. The smell is amazing, it comes in an easy spray bottle AND it tightens pores without drying my skin. FINALLY.

Trying: Sunday Riley U.F.O. ultra-clarifying face oil. I’ve heard great things about all their products, so something that claims to clear pores without overdrying? Sign me up!

My favorite setting powders

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and beauty blog; the best makeup setting powders

After a very brief hiatus (sometimes you just need a little break), I’m back and ready to talk beauty. My goal seems to always be to make my makeup stay all day and NOT melt right off my face.

I’ve had oily/combination skin my whole life so making my face stay on all day without being a shiny mess is crucial. I’ve tried a LOT of products throughout the years so today I want to talk about setting powders. (There’s a post on the other products I use coming your way next week!)

  • Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder – I love this product. I typically use it when I’m going to an event or shooting for the blog. It really does give a little extra something to your skin – smooth, polished and a slight glow.

  • Urban Decay Naked Skin Loose Finishing Powder – I used this baby forever until Sephora stopped carrying it (grrr….). I love this stuff though, and can’t recommend it enough if you’re looking for a nude setting powder over something white or neutral.

Yaaaas! We’ve made it to another weekend, ya’ll. Since I didn’t share one last week, I wanted to make sure to share some good link love this week. Here we go:

On SoS:

In the blogosphere:

On the interwebs: HGTV-themed this week.. but honestly I watch a LOT of that channel:

Reading:

Shopping:

  • Nike just created an entire line themed around ‘millennial pink‘ – I want all the shoes.
  • I have the Summer version of the Sephora nude lip collection, but I think the fall version needs to make its way to me, too.

Summer Stripes from SheIn

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion blog; Summer stye, striped linen SheIn blouse and white jeans

Thankfully, the weather this week has been SO much less humid than over the weekend. Seriously, it has turned into the perfect Summer weather, I’m in pure heaven. When I’m not wearing one of my favorite flowy dresses, I always reach for an easy linen blouse and my favorite white jeans or shorts.

This time of year, I love stocking up on easy, affordable blouses like this one. Linen is super breathable and the stripes are perfectly on trend. Added my favorite blush drop earrings and BAM summer outfit perfection. For me, it’s perfect for my casual office.

July 2017 Sephora Play! Box

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and beauty blog; July Sephora Play! Box Review

It’s hard to believe another month has essentially gone by already! 2017 is flying by faster than any year so far. Anyway, I wanted to share my thoughts on the products included in this months box.

I have to admit, I’m a big fan of the products included this month, so here we go:

  • Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding – A black-and-white swirled charcoal face mask that detoxifies, minimizes the appearance of pores, and balances the skin’s hydration levels. I actually used this for the first time after getting home from the most humid day of the year, and it worked wonders for my skin. Actually did feel SUPER clean, and pulled out some gunk from my face that resulted from being a sweaty mess. Highly recommend.

  • bareMinerals Statement Matte Liquid Lip Color in ‘Luxe’ – I love a good matte liquid lip. My only issue with them tends to be that they’re drying, but this one isn’t. It goes on smoothly, and doesn’t dry my lips out like a lot of liquid lipsticks. Would definitely buy a full size. (Plus, you can never have enough blush/mauve-y pinks.)

  • Briogeo Roscaro Milk Reparative leave-in conditioning spray – As a blonde with color treated hair, I’m all about products that will repair my ends. I’ve been using this in lieu of my detangling spray, and so far, I like it. Definitely smooths my hair without weighing it down. Haven’t been using it long enough to say whether it actually repairs damage, but I’ll report back!

SheIn Blush & Bow Sleeve Blouse

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion blog; blush SheIn blouse with white shorts and gingham sandals

In case it’s not obvious, I’m a big fan of blush-hued anything right now. When I came across this particular blouse, I knew I had to add it to my closet. It’s difficult to see, but it’s actually got a bit of a white and blush pinstripe. Add the unique neckline and the pretty bows and it’s a winner in my book.

If you haven’t ordered from SheIn, I highly recommend it. Their clothes are affordable and one of my favorite places to get trendier pieces. (I got these palm loafers as well as this knotted tee there – full post here) This blouse is a whopping $14. Yes, seriously. You can’t beat that. Shipping often takes a couple weeks, but that’s the only downfall I’ve experienced.

Casual Summer Style

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion blog; Casual summer style; how to style jeans shorts

Despite the ridiculous humidity as of late, there’s something so cozy about a Summer sweater and my favorite jean shorts. It’s such an easy look to throw on when you’re running errands, hanging at home or in a chilly office. This sweater is also on sale for just $10 right now, and would also pair really well with a swingy skirt and boots or jeans and booties in the fall.

I can’t sign off without also mentioning my favorite sandals from this season. These pearled-embellished Steve Madden slides are perfect. (Even though you’ve seen them on every blogger, ever.) Why, you ask? The embellishments make them perfect to throw on with a casual look to give it a little extra.
