Thread Cincinnati, Monkees of Madeira Sip and Shop

The ladies of Thread at Monkee’s of Madeira.

If you’re reading this, I’m probably in full panic mode over the fact that I’m leaving for four weeks in less than one week. Did I mention I haven’t exactly started packing yet!? So that’s where I’m at….

Let’s continue my procrastination by sharing a big of what I’ve been all about lately and what I’m loving from around the interwebs.

Wearing: I am obsessed with these loafers from Target. Let’s be real, they’re basically slippers that are acceptable to wear in public. Seriously, who wouldn’t want that? Plus, they’re affordable. Double bonus.

Also wearing: I picked up this pearl embellished sweater last week at H&M and I am obsessed. Best part? It’s actually warm!

Reading: Not gona lie, I ordered every single book in this post from Covering Bases. Always need good reading for travel, so I’m super excited!

Loving: I picked up a few last-minute items in the Sephora sale on Wednesday, including this eye cream (I had a sample of it and used EVERY drop) and this actually perfect matte red lip.

Cincy-ing: Super excited to shoot for the blog and grab brunch with Kayla this weekend at Nation. Probably my favorite brunch in Cincy.

Beauty Talk: November Sephora Play! Box

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and lifestyle blog; November 2017 Sephora Play! Box

This month’s Sephora Play! box was a good one, ya’ll. I definitely think Sephora hit the nail on the head for me this month with products for energizing your skin, absorbing oil and giving me those babydoll lashes – that certainly doesn’t suck, does it? I can definitely recommend completing your Play! profile, it really does help narrow down what you get.

Let’s get to it, shall we?

  • Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo – I used this dry shampoo last night, and I really liked the smell, though I’m not sure it was as effective as my normal go-to MoroccanOil dry shampoo. One thing I did REALLY like, is that when you spray it throughout your hair, you can’t FEEL anything in your hair. No grit, no color, etc.
  • Farmacy Honey Dew Lightweight Moisturizer with Echinecea GreenEnvy – A lightweight moisturizer that brightens, nourishes and provides antioxidants with hyaluronic acid complex. I’ve started using this in the PM after cleansing, Vitamin C and retinol, so far it gets a thumbs up. Plus, for my fellow oily skin gals, it’s not overly thick.
  • Marc Jacobs Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara – I worked this baby into my morning routine today and I’m officially a fan. I always use two mascaras in combination, I guess I’m weird. I mixed it with my Sephora Collection Lashcraft (my holy grail mascara) and I loved how long and full my lashes looked.

Thanksgiving at my (parents) house is traditionally very casual, so when I think about what to wear, my mind goes immediately to closet favorites, and, ya know, pieces you can eat generously in because, duh.

  1. A midi dress + booties.

Edgy Fall Style: Drop-waist dress with a moto

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati style blog; Fall style inspiration; drop waist dress and moto vest

Happy Monday, everyone! Sorry for the radio silence over the last week. I was great about getting my Sephora sale picks up last week, and that was pretty much it. (Check out that post here – the sale is still on!)

Apparently, burnt orange is my new favorite color for fall – two posts featuring this color in about two weeks will do it (check out my favorite fall sweater here). I picked up this dress at one of my favorite retailers, Gabes and immediately knew I wanted to style it with my moto vest. I’m also picturing it with booties and a blazer or moto jacket as well. You could even make it more casual by wearing a cardigan – perfect for Thanksgiving!

I know it’s a little chilly now, but I couldn’t let this little gem pass by without sharing it, especially since it’s so versatile. Plus, it’s super fun to twirl in, sooo…

Beauty Talk: The Sephora Sale

Success on Stilettos; what to buy in the sephora sale

It’s that time of year, ya’ll! I’m so excited each year for the Sephora sale. The illusive 20% off is the perfect time to stock up on favorites as well as take home items you want but maybe didn’t want to pay full price for.

This year, I picked up quite a few things, and also came across a few

  1. Cover FX Mattifying Setting Spray – I’ve been a HUGE fan of the UD makeup setting spray for a long time, and I happened to try this out in store a month or so ago, and was very impressed with how fine the mist was. I also have the illuminating version if you want a subtle glow, too.
  2. Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops – Just 1-2 drops of these puppies into your foundation and your skin will glow like no other. I love this kit because you really can get whatever glow you’d like. Plus you can use it as an epic highlighter. too and they last quite a long time.
  3. Murad Pore Refining Scrub – Hands down, this is my favorite deep exfoliator. I use this 1-2x per week when I want a deep clean/scrub and I love how well it works. Plus, it has cinnamon so my pores shrink right up.
  4. Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Base – I first heard about this glowy foundation from Hallie at Among Other Things   and knew I had to have it. Her skin looked SO glowy and perfect, it’s going to be great for days when you want subtle coverage and a glowy look.
  5. Make Up For Ever Mattifying Primer – This is my new holy grail primer. I recently switched over from the Cover FX Mattifying primer, which was more a gel consistency. When I use a primer, I want my makeup to genuinely stay all day, and this primer 100% does the trick. From day 1 I noticed my makeup staying put longer and longer – and that, my friends, is worth the money.
  6. Naked Skin Foundation – Another one of my holy grail products. I use this medium-coverage foundation for everyday wear and have really loved it. It’s lightweight, buildable and really doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything on your face!
  7. Cover FX Custom Infusion Drops – Though I don’t have these yet, but I’m so intrigued! Anything that makes my skin look more even, smooth and bright, I am here for.
  8. Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Foundation – Have your face look like a real-life snapchat filer? Yes please. Though a bunch of these are sold out online, I’ve heard nothing but good things and cannot wait to get my hands on a bottle.

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati based fashion and lifestyle blog; bell sleeve burnt orange sweater with skinny jeans and booties

Original post here

TGIF, ya’ll.

…we made it through Halloween! I spent the evening of the 31st watching Stranger Things which felt fitting (no spoilers, please – I started season 1 earlier this week so I’m still catching up).

Even though I’m working six days this week, the week really has flown by. I’m super excited for Sunday, because I’m heading to Indy with a couple of friends to see none other than Lady Gaga. (SO excited!!)

Can you guys believe it’s November!? Despite the fact that it’s in the 70s here, it’s hard not to get into the holiday spirit, just a little.

Anyway, let’s get to it, shall we? Here’s what caught my eye this week:

On Sos: Did you guys catch this orange bell sleeve sweater? It’s my favorite fall go to, and it’s super affordable. Also, I’m talking about my October Sephora Play! box – what I liked, what I would buy a full size of, what I didn’t and wouldn’t, respectively.

Reading:

Shopping: All I’ve been shopping for lately are sweaters, sweaters and more sweaters. Here’s what I’ve been eyeing this week:

Eating: I’ve rediscovered my favorite black bean recipe. I made a huge batch at the beginning of this week and I’ve been eating off it everyday at lunch (ok, and dinner).
Traveling: Next week is taking me to both Indianapolis and Dallas. Indy will be a short trip, but I would love any dinner/drinks reccos you can send my way (same for Dallas!).
What are your plans this weekend? Do tell.

Beauty Talk: October Sephora Play! Box

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and lifestyle blog; October Sephora Play! Box Review

Ok, first of all, holy November. Did October even happen?! I was on vacation for a good portion of the month (#champagneprobz) and when we got back it was like… BAM! the holidays are here.

Speaking of, do the holidays seem to hit earlier and earlier every year? Seth and I are putting up our Christmas tree in the next couple of weeks because I’ll be traveling for pretty much the entirety of the last six weeks of the year, and it’s a tradition in our house that we decorate the tree together and listen to Christmas music.

October’s box came the day before we left for vacation, so I didn’t have time to shoot it before we left, hence the delay. SO here we go:

  • BareMinerals Mineral Veil – This sheer setting powder provides a little more coverage than my everyday setting powder (IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Powder). I liked it a lot! I love the extra coverage it gives to my everyday foundation and I think it’ll also look great with my fuller coverage foundation as well.
  • Gucci ‘Bloom’ – As if the name didn’t say it, this is a very heavy, floral scent. It’s definitely not something I would purchase myself, but I’m wearing it today and though I kind of feel like an old librarian, I’m also kind of into it.. am I crazy?

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and lifestyle blog; October Sephora Play! Box Review

  • dr. brandt PoreDermabrasion Pore Perfecting Exfoliator –  I do a ‘heavy’ exfoliation once a week, generally and this week, I tried this one. I liked it a lot! My normal exfoliating treatment is this one from Murad, which is a great price so I don’t know that i’d switch necessarily, but I will definitely be using this on occasion.
  • Sunday Riley C.E.O. Rapid Flash Brightening Serum – I was SO excited this was in my box, since I’ve been wanting to try it, but $$$$. SO, after trying it in this box, I’m a fan (Unfortunately, because again…$$$.) Sunday Riley products really do what they say they’re going to do, which is definitely worth the investment. Plus, I’ve found that with high end beauty products, while they cost more up front, you definitely use less product on a daily basis, so they last MUCH longer.
  • Make Up For Ever Ulta HD Invisible Cover Foundation – I actually used to wear this foundation as my everyday in college. I stopped using it because I didn’t feel it stayed on super well, but then again.. I also wasn’t using a primer or setting spray. SO…. I used it again and I definitely think it’s great for lightweight coverage.

I have to admit, the little social media/blogging/full-time job break over the last week and a half was really nice, and much needed. While I write this blog because I love it and have a passion for it, sometimes disconnecting is completely necessary. We were

Seth and I got back late last week from a week of hiking, relaxing and drinking in Asheville, NC. We hiked the majority of the trip, but we stayed downtown (check out my ‘where to stay’ post here) and explored some new-to-us places as well. I’m going to be sharing a few posts later this week about our trip, but wanted to share this cozy, on-trend sweater before I jump into that content.

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and lifestyle blog; Iris van Herpen exhibit opening at the Cincinnati Art Museum

FriYaY here we are, yet again. I’m pretty excited for this weekend.. we have a friend staying with us and I hopefully get to have my favorite tex-mex AND we’re carving pumpkins tonight with our good friends, which is one of my most favorite fall traditions.

On the blog: I partnered with Gabes to share some seriously good boots and booties for fall. This week, I shared a pair of grey booties with studded detail. Last week, it was all about these velvet glitter booties.

Shopping: I love the Sephora lip kits. I have two already, and I’m feeling like I NEED the ‘Give me some more’ kit they just released. Full post coming soon, but I am a big fan of Tula skincare. I just repurchased this kit. It’s also worth noting that Target is killing the sweater game this season. I popped in earlier this week and saw this and this and I want them SO badly.

Cincy-ing: If you follow along on Insta, you may have seen that on Wednesday, a few Cincy blogger babes and I were invited to the Cincinnati Art Museum for the opening of the Iris Van Herpen: Transforming Fashion exhibit. It was really really cool. She’s designed pieces for Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Solange to name a few. I cannot recommend enough that you check this exhibit out. It’s here until January 7th, and you can purchase tickets here.

Cincy-ing II: Blink is happening in Cincy this weekend and I cannot wait to check it out. Think large scale murals, light shows, performances, etc., all bringing the buildings of Cincinnati to life.

Wearing: I am absolutely obsessed with this blouse and these split booties from H&M and Steve Madden, respectively. This outfit (maybe I’ll do a full outfit post on it soon?) might be my new go-to!

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and lifestyle blog; bell sleeve blouse and booties for fall

Eating: Do you guys remember when I shared this black mean mash recipe? It’s still one of my most favorite things to meal prep for the week, so check it out!

Traveling: Toward the end of next week, Seth and I are heading to Asheville for a week of hiking, drinking and relaxing. Remember this post from last year? I told you we had to go back! Be sure to follow along on Insta + Snap!

Have a great weekend, style accordingly!

Favorite Fall Neutrals: Cardigan + Cap Toe

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and lifestyle blog wearing cap toe pumps and fall neutrals

Going on record here to say sometimes the best and most repeated looks are the simplest. I’ve mentioned before, but true life, when the weather moves toward fall and winter, my wardrobe color palette immediately turns neutral (evidence here and here).

None of these pieces are necessarily new, but are trusted closet staples that can (obviously..) be paired together, or be remixed a zillion other ways (you last saw these ripped black jeans here). True life though, sometimes it’s nice to throw on a tank and a cozy cardigan and be done.
