Friday Faves: October 13th, 2017

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and lifestyle blog; Iris van Herpen exhibit opening at the Cincinnati Art Museum

FriYaY here we are, yet again. I’m pretty excited for this weekend.. we have a friend staying with us and I hopefully get to have my favorite tex-mex AND we’re carving pumpkins tonight with our good friends, which is one of my most favorite fall traditions.

On the blog: I partnered with Gabes to share some seriously good boots and booties for fall. This week, I shared a pair of grey booties with studded detail. Last week, it was all about these velvet glitter booties.

Shopping: I love the Sephora lip kits. I have two already, and I’m feeling like I NEED the ‘Give me some more’ kit they just released. Full post coming soon, but I am a big fan of Tula skincare. I just repurchased this kit. It’s also worth noting that Target is killing the sweater game this season. I popped in earlier this week and saw this and this and I want them SO badly.

Cincy-ing: If you follow along on Insta, you may have seen that on Wednesday, a few Cincy blogger babes and I were invited to the Cincinnati Art Museum for the opening of the Iris Van Herpen: Transforming Fashion exhibit. It was really really cool. She’s designed pieces for Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Solange to name a few. I cannot recommend enough that you check this exhibit out. It’s here until January 7th, and you can purchase tickets here.

Cincy-ing II: Blink is happening in Cincy this weekend and I cannot wait to check it out. Think large scale murals, light shows, performances, etc., all bringing the buildings of Cincinnati to life.

Wearing: I am absolutely obsessed with this blouse and these split booties from H&M and Steve Madden, respectively. This outfit (maybe I’ll do a full outfit post on it soon?) might be my new go-to!

Eating: Do you guys remember when I shared this black mean mash recipe? It’s still one of my most favorite things to meal prep for the week, so check it out!

Traveling: Toward the end of next week, Seth and I are heading to Asheville for a week of hiking, drinking and relaxing. Remember this post from last year? I told you we had to go back! Be sure to follow along on Insta + Snap!

Have a great weekend, style accordingly!

Favorite Fall Neutrals: Cardigan + Cap Toe

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and lifestyle blog wearing cap toe pumps and fall neutrals

Going on record here to say sometimes the best and most repeated looks are the simplest. I’ve mentioned before, but true life, when the weather moves toward fall and winter, my wardrobe color palette immediately turns neutral (evidence here and here).

None of these pieces are necessarily new, but are trusted closet staples that can (obviously..) be paired together, or be remixed a zillion other ways (you last saw these ripped black jeans here). True life though, sometimes it’s nice to throw on a tank and a cozy cardigan and be done.

Fall Boots + Pop of Blue [Fall Boots with Gabes]

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and beauty blog; fall booties on a budget with Gabes

When I came across these booties, I immediately knew I had to pair them with this blue moto jacket. The best part? I scooped up this entire look at Gabes. The studs on these booties caught my eye immediately, and I knew they had to come home with me. They add just enough edge to be perfect with this pretty blue jacket, which I actually picked up a couple of years ago at Gabes.

I’m all about a loose but chic dress, booties and a topper that pulls it all together for fall.

Soft like velvet: Fall boots with Gabes part III

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and beauty blog; fall booties on a budget with Gabes

Today’s post might be one of my absolute favorite Gabes finds yet. These booties are so perfect for the upcoming holiday season. Yes, I’m going to be wearing them to every single remotely holiday-themed event I attend.

I never thought I’d see the day when the velvet trend would fully come back around, but I am here. for. it. The best thing about these booties is that they’re Betsey Johnson – and I found them for under $40. #winning

This pretty open-backed dress was under $10, and I’m loving them together. I added my favorite biker jacket and MAC lipstick. Admittedly, this look is a little edgier than I typically do, but I am super proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and going for it with this look. In fact, I’m seriously considering wearing it to Lady Gaga in November (with my girl Elise!).

Fall Boots with Gabes: Part II

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and beauty blog; fall booties on a budget with Gabes

Super excited to be back again today to share another set of amazing finds from one of my favorite stores, Gabes! Yesterday, I shared a really cute pair of distressed cognac booties which is a perfect a casual fall look, so today I wanted to share something a little dressier, in that the darker hues feel perfect for a chilly date-night.

These booties are from Express, but I scooped them up for under $15, yes you read that right. I love the sheen of the black as well. I think it really gives them a high-end feel and the perfect touch of edge to an all black outfit.

This off-shoulder sweater is also Express but at a fraction of the price (like, under $10!). It makes me want to cozy up in front of a fire, but also is chic enough to wear for a cooler night out. #allaboutit

The perfect fall booties with Gabes

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and beauty blog; fall booties on a budget with Gabes

It’s that time of year that most of us absolutely love: fall. Why do we love it? Cooler temps (candidly I’m an eternal Summer kinda girl but hey), warm fall beverages, chili, football and most importantly? Fall shopping!

My blog has always had a frugal fashion lens – and you’ve seen my Gabes finds here before, so when Gabes challenged me to find the perfect fall booties, I happily accepted. I’ve got three additional posts coming your way, in addition to this one sharing what I’ve found. When I hit my local store, the shoe section was ON POINT you guys.

They had boots from Qupid (the pair I’m wearing) to Express, Lucky Brand, Nine West and Betsey Johnson. LOTS of name brand boots and booties for an absolute steal.

This particular pair are the PERFCT cognac bootie for fall. The heel isn’t so tall you can’t reasonably walk around all day, they have a little distress so they aren’t too put together.

I also scooped up this button-up jersey blouse and destroyed, raw hem skinny jeans at Gabes too. The best part? This entire look was under $50. Yes, you read that right!

Beauty Talk: September Sephora Play! Box

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and style blog; September Sephora Play! Box

I know it feels repetitive to say this, because I feel like I’ve been saying it pretty much all year, but how are we nearly to October already!? I admit, I was pretty excited to receive this month’s box. August’s wasn’t amazing (full review here) so I was hoping this one would be great, and it didn’t disappoint! (Don’t forget to catch my last few reviews here and here.)

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and style blog; September Sephora Play! Box

  • Benefit Gimme Me Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel – I’ve been using this since it came in the mail instead of my normal e.l.f. brow pencil, and I definitely like it. It subtly darkens my brows without making them too dark (hello, light hair and fair skin I don’t want to overdo it). for the price point vs. my e.l.f., I don’t think I would purchase a full size, but I really do like the tiny brush and how easy it is to apply.
  • Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner in black – This liner goes on super smoothly, and it did a pretty good job of staying in place all day. My daily liner is the Kat Von D Tattoo Liquid Liner.
  • I don’t think I would replace, as I think the Kat Von D creates a smoother line than the Stila and stayed just a touch better, but it’s a great alternative.
  • Laura Mercier Velour Lovers Lips in ‘Happy’ – Candidly, I totally forgot to add this into my shoot, because it was in my purse, which should tell you all you need to know. I’ve been wearing this lipstick and really like it. This totally surprised me, because I don’t normally wear non-matte lipsticks and this one has a little glitter but the color is perfect, which will make it perfect for holiday parties.

  • Belief the True Cream Moisturizing Bomb –  This was the product I was least excited about, but it turned out to be not so bad! It’s not super crazy thick like a lot of ‘moisture’ products are, but I’ve used it once a week and it definitely makes my (normal/combination) skin happy, and will be using it in winter to keep my skin hydrated. It’s light and has a citrus smell – which is exactly what I didn’t know I wanted!

Friday Faves: September 22, 2017

Success on Stilettos; a Cincinnati fashion and beauty blog; fall boots on a budget with Gabes

Friday, we meet again! For some reason, this week has seemed to drag by. Even though I’m working a good portion of the weekend, I’m looking forward to a relaxing Sunday of hot yoga + a manicure. Anyway, here’s what I’ve been reading this week:

on SoS:

  • A classic LBD that I’m transitioning to Fall with a cardi or field jacket.
  • How to layer for cool mornings + hot afternoons.

Olive + Denim

The question I ask myself what seems like every fall: What to wear when the calendar says fall, but the temperature says summer? We’ve got chilly mornings in the 50s and afternoons in the 80s and 90s. For me, that’s where layering a denim jacket always inevitably comes in.

I couldn’t resist a pop of color in the form of a red lip (this one, to be exact). I don’t know about you, but weather definitely effects my mood, and since it’s still pretty warm, bright colors are still making an appearance.

Classic Feminine LBD

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati based fashion and beauty blog; feminine LBD with a scarf

Thank goodness we’re back to the (somewhat) norm with temps in the 80s this week, because I totally shot this dress like a month ago, and totally forgot to share it with you. This pretty LBD such a great feminine silhouette, and is a welcomed change from skin tight dresses. Plus, it has pockets. (I’ve linked a few similar pieces below, as this affordable frock is sadly sold out.)

An easy way to add some color is to throw on a silk scarf to instantly add a little extra to an otherwise basic black look.

For fall, add your favorite field jacket or fest and loafers or pumps for a seasonally appropriate look when it gets a little chilly.  (I’m also literally wearing this dress today, see how I styled it over on Instagram.)
