Recipes of the Week Smoothies and Broccoli

I know I know, seems random as hell. Recently, I’ve been obsessed with berry smoothies. I have been attempting to perfect my recipe for a week or so, and I think I’ve finally done it:

I’ve discovered that the ‘secret’ to making them sweet and delicious without adding sugar is vanilla or chocolate protein powder. Here’s the recipe I use:

  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1/2 c. skim milk
  • 1 large scoop of unflavored greek yogurt
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder

Blend, enjoy. If it’s too runny, add more berries, if it’s too ‘chunky’, add more milk or yogurt depending on the consistency you want it. This smoothie with the above servings runs approximately 300 calories.

Another side dish that goes great with essentially any kind of meat, but especially steak, I recently discovered was this amazing roasted broccoli:

Seriously, so good.

Seriously, so good.

The Recipe:

  • 1 or 1/2 head fresh broccoli (depending on how many you’re serving – I’ve found a 1/2 head is good for 1 person)
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Garlic
  • Pepper
  • Lemon juice
  • olive oil

Preheat oven to 450 and cut up the head of broccoli to include somewhat long stems. Drizzle 1-2 tbp. olive oil over the broccoli on a baking sheet. Sprinkle a little pepper, red pepper flakes and garlic on the broccoli. Bake for around 20 minutes, or until broccoli begins to brown, then sprinkle a little lemon juice over the finished product. (Not too much though, or else it will overpower it!)
