Last weekend, Seth and I decided somewhat on a whim to take a little adventure to Key West.
What you may not know, is that my husband is a pilot, so we have flight benefits which allow us to fly standby on flights (yes, for those of you non-aviation people out there that means fly for free). It’s a super cool perk, that we admittedly hadn’t utilized in the time he’s been employed with the airline.
Not ones for making grand New Year’s Resolutions, we decided 2017 was our year to start making the most of our benefits – and why not start it off with a bang? It’s not international, but hey, it worked for us. Needless to say, I’m super excited to share more travel content with ya’ll this year!
Getting to Key West was no problem. The flights were wide open and we ended up with great seats and free drinks. The weekend was all about relaxation, so we didn’t go in with any real plan about what we wanted to do.
Had to have some Key Lime pie…
The most hilarious and unexpected part of our trip was getting home. We woke up on our second to last day and realized we needed to leave that day because the following day’s flights were oversold. So we show up to the airport, all good, right? HA, right. Until high winds caused all the flights to be cancelled for the next two days.
We ended up that night in Marathon, followed by a very long drive to Jacksonville the next day. Naturally, our flights out of Jacksonville and then connecting in Atlanta were fully uneventful and we ended up back in Cincy at a perfectly decent time. Not gona lie, Type A as I am, I kind of love the spontaneity of traveling standby. We’re planning a few more trips this year, and I can’t wait to share those here on the blog, too.
