Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati style blog; fall boyfriend blazer and destroyed denim

We’ve made it through yet another week! Although today is not technically my real ‘Friday’,

on the blog:

How I’m transitioning my white denim into fall.

The purrrrfect fall blazer.

shopping:

Loving these gold studded booties. They’ll be the perfect tough of edgyness for fall.

I’m totally here for the mustard yellow trend this fall. These heels feel vintage, but the price tag is perfect.

Another of Zara’s new arrivals, but I’m loving that velvet platforms are back!

Last one I swear, these mules are EVERYTHING. #addtocart

cincy-ing:

Hoping to hit Octoberfest Zinzinncati at least once this weekend.

Cue stomach growl: the best burgers in Cincinnati.

around the interwebs:

Photos from Marilyn Monroe’s last photo shoot.

Why the infamous ‘cerulean’ speech from The Devil Wear’s Prada isn’t quite true.

Have a great weekend, ya’ll!

Fall Style: The Boyfriend Blazer

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati style blog; fall boyfriend blazer and destroyed denim

There’s nothing I love more during cooler months than a good boyfriend blazer. This one in particular is great because its just long enough AND it’s at a great price point (under $50!). The longer length makes it perfect for dressing up or dressing down – anything from work (with cigarette pants or a midi dress) to cocktails with a black swingy dress or midi dress and strappy heels.

This particular look feels like the perfect in between: polished yet a little egdy.

How to transition white jeans to fall

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and beauty blog; how to wear white jeans in fall

It’s that time of year where we officially have to start rocking sweaters and booties. Last week I was in complete denial. Please no fall, but thanks to a fun little shoot with my girl Kayla yesterday, I’m somewhat more excited. Plus, I can still wear my Summer favorites and style them for cooler temps.

I’ve had this neutral sweater (I’ve linked a few very similar versions below!) for years and it remains one of my absolute favorite fall/winter pieces. I’ve worn it with everything from cut off shorts to faux leather leggings, and now with these white jeans with booties.

Friday Faves: September 8, 2017

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati style blog; faux leather pleated mini skirt; fall style

Original post here

I cannot believe that it’s the first week of September and it’s in the 40s overnight and upper 60s/low 70s during the day already. WTF.

On blogs and social, everyone is like ‘Yaaay fall, yay PSLs!’ so I keep feeling I’m the only one who is begging for just a few more weeks of Summertime. Agree? Disagree?

Now, let’s get to why you’re really here, Friday Faves!

On the blog: This week, I shared a few final Summer lewks!

  • This bright blouse is perfect for the final days of Summer.
  • A midi dress that can totally be transitioned to fall, and how I’d do it.

Around the Interwebs:

  • REALLY excited for Gaga’s documentary on Netflix to debut.
  • Things you probably didn’t know about What Not to Wear. I honestly had totally forgotten about that show, but I really liked it!
  • Can you believe it’s been 10 years since Gossip Girl!? I read the books in high school, and honestly loved them.
  • The royal family must travel with an all-black outfit. Here’s why.

In the blogosphere:

  • Wishing I was in Italy, thanks to Krista’s posts.
  • Really liked Hallie’s post about how sh*t going on in your personal life can effect your friendships, especially those close to you.

Cincy-ing:

Shopping:

  • Old Navy is killing the game when it comes to pretty fall dresses (ya’ll know I hate pants…). I ordered this, this, and this.
  • These neutral loafers are proving to be the perfect addition to my fall wardrobe.

The perfect Summer dress

Yes, I’m perfectly aware it’s now September, but I like to dress for the weather, no matter what time of year it is. While we definitely have cooler temps coming our way later this week, it’s been pretty warm here, so I’m getting as much wear out of my Summer faves as possible (case in point, Monday’s post!)

I also plan to transitioning this pretty frock to fall by wearing my favorite cognac pumps and throwing either my green field jacket (last seen here) or a moto jacket over top. This pretty dress is now available in a bunch of new colors for fall, too!

Labor Day Outfit: Shorts + Plaid

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and beauty blog; how to wear white after Labor Day; Old Navy white jean shorts with plaid Anthropologie blouse

I know, I know. Today is Labor Day and as a good little blogger, I should be sharing fall outfits right? Well, maybe..but I just cannot bring myself to throw on booties and sweaters while it’s still 90 degrees out. I like to show what I’m actually wearing. So, I have a few more Summery looks left for you before shifting into the fall looks, especially since we’re about to have 5-6 months of dreary weather.

Anyway, this blouse has been one of my absolute favorites this Summer. It’s light and loose and bright which I absolutely love. I’ve worn it with these shorts (last seen here) + ankle tie heels (last seen here) about a million times. They’ve been perfect for everything from date night to brunch.

Success on Stilettos; a Cincinnati fashion and beauty blog; 24 Hours in San Francisco

Another Friday, another month in 2017 gone by. This year has without a doubt flown by faster than any yet. I guess that’s what happens when you get older…

Looking forward to a few days off this weekend, hanging at a new brewery in town and spending some QT with my sweet hubs.

Aaaaanyway, let’s get to why you really came here, some link love:

First, here is a great list of ways you can help the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

On the blog:

  • Hard to believe this time last week I was exploring San Francisco. Check out the full post here.
  • This red maxi dress is giving me alllll the salsa dancer emoji vibes.

Salsa dancer emoji: Red Zara Maxi

I scooped up this pretty maxi dress during the Zara sale a couple of months ago and it’s the perfect maxi for the dog days of Summer, without a doubt. It’s a jersey-type material and, wait for it – it has pockets!

It can easily be dressed up or dressed down, and it totally gives me the salsa dancer emoji vibes. These pretty woven sandals are truly the perfect Summer shoe – for dining al fresco, dancing the night away, brunch with your gal pals.

I can totally see myself throwing a biker jacket over this and a peep-toe bootie and BAM – fall maxi perfection!

24 Hours in San Francisco

24 hours in San Francisco, what to do on a trip to san francisco

You may or may not know that my sweet husband is a pilot. One of the perks of that job is flight benefits. Last week, he happened to be sitting in San Francisco for a few days, and I was able to fly out, literally for 24 hours.

There’s little more fun than a spontaneous trip with no set itinerary. All I knew was that I wanted to grab In ‘n’ Out (#notsorry), and have some seafood. We honestly spent the majority of the day wandering the streets and doing one of my favorite things,  looking at the gorgeous architecture.

Since we’d both been before and the bridge was pretty fogged in, we started at In ‘n’ Out (I arrived right at lunch time) and then decided to settle our indulgent lunch with a walk along the water. We headed along the wharf, then up to Lombard Street (super touristy, I know, but I had never seen it).

We kept walking around most of the day, which I know I’ve mentioned is one of my favorite things, but seriously ya’ll, San Fran is another perfect city in which to do that. We did end our day with a trip to see the Painted Ladies (Seth hadn’t been to see them yet) which are always cool to see, then we had some delicious sea food for dinner.

Originally, we were supposed to have a second day to explore, so we saved a photo-op at the bridge for day 2, which obviously didn’t end up happening, because #pilotlife. So I packed my bag and headed back to the ‘Nati.

When we travel, we try really hard to stay ‘off the beaten path‘, which is sometimes easier said than done. We definitely hit some of those more trafficked spots, but I highly recommend trying those, especially if it’s you’re first time there!

Beauty Talk: August Sephora Play! Box

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and beauty blog; Sephora Play! box review

Another month, another beauty box from Sephora Play! (again, this post is not sponsored, I just love sharing new-to-me beauty products). You can catch my previous posts here from July and June.

This month’s box was exclusively products that were new to me. Most months, I’m super excited by at least 2 of the products, but this month was a bit meh.

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion and beauty blog; Sephora Play! box review

Brazilian Bum Bum Cream – Probably the product I was most excited to try, yet also most skeptical about. I started using this on the backs of my legs and booty, and immediately love the smell and the glow it provides (super subtle, but definitely enough to make you feel like a Brazilian babe!). Does it actually firm? Jury’s still out on that one, but it feels really smoothing as you put it on.

Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Creme– This concealer was a bit too thin for me to use on a spot treatment (I use this Tarte concealer for that) but would probably work well as an undereye concealer if you like something with a thinner consistency.

Too Faced Mascara Melt Off Waterproof Mascara Remover – I admittedly don’t generally wear waterproof mascara, but this is definitely an interesting concept. It comes out as a thicker oil on the wand. Definitely helps take off mascara without having to pull on your lashes with a cotton pad. (Overall, meh, I’ll probably stick to my liquid remover.)

Kat Von D Saint and Sinner Perfume Duo – My little secret is that rather than buy full-size bottles of perfume anymore, I have a small jar of samples that I rotate through. I liked both of these scents, they’re about what you’d expect. ‘Saint’ is a lighter, more floral scent while ‘Sinner’ is a darker, more masculine.

Micro Beauty Blender – Admittedly, I don’t use beauty bledner’s much, but the suggested use for this little guy is as a corrector, which I can totally get behind. Wet it, ring it out and you can use it to correct makeup missteps while creating that perfectly sculpted face.
