Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati style blog; faux leather pleated mini skirt; fall style

Original post here

I cannot believe that it’s the first week of September and it’s in the 40s overnight and upper 60s/low 70s during the day already. WTF.

On blogs and social, everyone is like ‘Yaaay fall, yay PSLs!’ so I keep feeling I’m the only one who is begging for just a few more weeks of Summertime. Agree? Disagree?

Now, let’s get to why you’re really here, Friday Faves!

On the blog: This week, I shared a few final Summer lewks!

  • This bright blouse is perfect for the final days of Summer.
  • A midi dress that can totally be transitioned to fall, and how I’d do it.

Around the Interwebs:

  • REALLY excited for Gaga’s documentary on Netflix to debut.
  • Things you probably didn’t know about What Not to Wear. I honestly had totally forgotten about that show, but I really liked it!
  • Can you believe it’s been 10 years since Gossip Girl!? I read the books in high school, and honestly loved them.
  • The royal family must travel with an all-black outfit. Here’s why.

In the blogosphere:

  • Wishing I was in Italy, thanks to Krista’s posts.
  • Really liked Hallie’s post about how sh*t going on in your personal life can effect your friendships, especially those close to you.

Cincy-ing:

Shopping:

  • Old Navy is killing the game when it comes to pretty fall dresses (ya’ll know I hate pants…). I ordered this, this, and this.
  • These neutral loafers are proving to be the perfect addition to my fall wardrobe.

Warm Spring Brights

Success on Stilettos, a Cincinnati fashion blog; pink sweater and white jeans with booties for Spring

Funny how this time of year I always seem to ditch my darker colors in favor of my white jeans (although ya’ll know I wear those year round) paired with bright colors. Since the mornings are still pretty chilly around here (even when the sun is shining!) I find myself reaching for lighter sweaters and my favorite booties. I’m not quite ready for open toes.. although I’m pretty sure with a high of 71 tomorrow, I think I’ll be ready!

Friday Faves: Jan 20

Happy Friday, ya’ll! It’s been a long week on my end. Coming back from vacation and dealing with a few health issues (nothing major) has made this week feel like it’s just dragging on. I’m looking forward to a little R&R with NO PLANS this weekend – except watching the Stillers and working on some blog content.

Original post

You’re definitely going to be seeing me in my favorite flats this weekend. Maybe even some bare legs given the mild weather we’ve been having – still waiting on the other shoe to drop, but I’m thinking it may not at this point. Ever since our Key West mini-vacay a couple weeks ago, my head is ready not only for another getaway, but to somewhere warm:

Hope ya’ll have a great weekend!

Style accordingly,

Chunky Sweater

It has been COLD in Cincy the past week! There’s officially no question that winter is here in full force, especially since today is the first ‘official’ day of winter. Despite the cold, there’s nothing I love more than a chunky sweater in cold weather. When I came across this green color at H&M, I knew I had to have it. Oddly, I tend to gravitate toward reds or black and grey in the winter (random, I know) so I didn’t have anything like it. It’s been a great addition this winter, and I’m loving it with black and grey – it makes me feel so chic.

Finery Boutique

thread x finery

A few weeks ago, the ladies of Thread Cincy and I got together for a fun holiday shoot at Cincy’s latest hot-spot for fashionistas, Finery Boutique. If you’re like me, you know buying a dress for every event (weddings, holiday parties, showers) can be hell on the wallet. Also, I rarely repeat dresses because who wants to be ‘Grammed in the same dress over and over? Enter: Finery where you can rent your next special occasion look.

Seriously, ya’ll – the idea of this place is genius. I love being able to rent a dress, but being able to try on a dress before wearing it is HUGE. I’m petite, so that’s super important. (In fact, several of the dresses I tried on at the store I thought would look amazing were in fact, made for taller ladies.) The dress I’m wearing? You can rent it for just $25 – I liked it so much I’m renting it for the rehearsal dinner for a wedding I’m in next month.

What to Wear to.. a Holiday Party: Part II

I’m back today with another holiday party look! This time, I wanted to share something a little more casual. Not all holiday parties or Christmases with family and friends are dressy – my house certainly isn’t! You can literally never go wrong with black and pops of red, especially when those pops of red are in the form of flannel pumps. I’m actually obsessed!

Top & Denim: Old Navy // Heels: DSW // Necklace: Charming Charlie (almost identical) // Lip: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil

Dress accordingly,

Shearling Vest

I got this shearling vest last winter and I knew immediately it would be one of those pieces that becomes a closet staple every year. It’s super versatile, it can be worn casually, like I’ve styled it here, or with a dress and boots, or a sweater and booties – the options are endless.

I love my heels, but some days I’m just in the mood for a pair of punchy flats – today is that day, my friends. The gold on these from Old Navy are simple, but the gold makes them chic.

Vest: Forever 21 (purchased last yere, similar here, more linked below!) // Top: Target (similar here)// Denim & Flats: Old Navy

What to wear to: Holiday parties (Part I)

holiday party style success on stilettos

When I think of the holidays, I don’t immediately think BUSY, but let’s be real, I probably should. From cocktail parties to work functions and family gatherings – it can be hard to decide what to wear when you’re being pulled in a million directions. I like to look to my tried-and-true wardrobe workhouses when getting dressed for events – that way I always feel my best.

When I came across these flannel pumps, I knew I had to have them for all things festive AND they’d go with everything, even once Christmas is over. You can never go wrong with a little pattern-mixing. Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered no matter the occasion – later this week, I’m going to share another more casual party outfit.

Button-up flannel: J.Crew Factory // Skirt: Ann Taylor via Gabes (almost identical here, more linked below!)

Necklace & Bracelets: Charming Charlie (almost identical, under $25!) // Bag: Dooney&Bourke (gift, LOVE this one!)

Heels: DSW // Sunnies: Marshall’s // Lip: NARS Velvet Matte Lip Cream in ‘Cruella’

Gift Guide: For the Hostess (under $60!)

So it’s that time of year, when you’re invited to countless holiday parties, and you’re not quite sure what to bring as a thank-you gift. Not only that, but don’t want to break the bank. That’s where I come in! I’ve curated a shoppable list of some of my favorite hostess gift ideas – things I’d love to give AND get:

hostess gift guide

Diptique candle // decanter // bottle opener // rose gold candle

cocktails book // cocktail napkins // coffee cups // coasters // paddle board

In our house, we basically collect candles, so I’m of the opinion you can never have too many! I also love any alcohol-related gifts! Cocktail napkins, serving board, drink recipes – the list goes on.

Don’t forget to check out my other holiday posts: Gifts for HimClassics with L.L. Bean and gifts for the girl who has everything!
